Abstract


The present work shows an iron axe from I to V AD centuries. This piece belongs to an archaeological site from "La Olmeda" (Palencia, Spain) where several iron artifacts were found. The metallurgical characterization of ancient iron axe was performed using optical microscopy, SEM-EDX, XRD and hardness test. The data obtained show the fabrication procedure and the technological knowledge of the roman society in "La Olmeda" site.
