Abstract

The alloy composition is the most important factor that determines the characteristic martensitic transformation temperatures in shape memory alloys. These temperatures are very sensitive to a change of alloying element concentrations. From a technological point of view this fact is very important due to the difficulty to control with high precision the concentration in ternary or quaternary alloys. An empirical relationship between the alloying element concentrations and the martensitic transformation temperatures has been established for Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloys.
