Dear Authors and Readers:

Last year, the Revista de Metalurgia adopted significant changes to its format that we believe will contribute towards its modernisation and international importance. The journal is now an on-line, open access quarterly publication with articles in both Spanish and English. These changes would appear to have been very positively welcomed.

This year, the journal has renewed its team, and has both a new Editorial and Advisory Board. The members of these boards and their affiliations can be consulted here http://revistademetalurgia.revistas.csic.es/index.php/revistademetalurgia/about/editorialTeam. A debt of gratitude is owed to these colleagues for taking up these positions, for their good will in collaborating with the journal in the improvement of its quality indices, and for contributing in this way to the spread of knowledge on the science and technology of metallic materials.

The new Editorial Board is committed to increasing the international reach and visibility of the journal, and much effort is being invested in its further modernisation. This includes making it easier for authors and referees to send in manuscripts, thus improving the review process and the overall handling of prospective articles. With this in mind, and with the help of the Editorial CSIC and the FECYT (the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology), 2015 will see the instalment of an open journal system for on-line manuscript management. This will make the handling of manuscripts much more streamlined and improve the national and international image of the journal which last year received its Certificate of Excellence. A small statistical summary may be of interest to readers at this point: in 2014 the journal received 65 manuscripts, the authors of 56 of these were from European, Latin American and Asian countries, the rejection rate surpassed 60%, and Volume 50 saw the publication of 33 articles.

Finally, the journal celebrates its 50^th anniversary this year. Over this time it has published over 2500 scientific papers. During 2015 several commemorative acts will be held, including conferences, an exhibition, and the publication of papers by invited authors. It is our hope that the history of the journal will thus become better appreciated, and that it will become more widely known among the scientific community and society in general.

Queridos autores y lectores:

El año pasado Revista de Metalurgia inició un cambio significativo en el formato que creemos contribuye a su modernización e internacionalización. Ahora, la Revista es una publicación en línea de libre acceso, que publica tanto en castellano como en inglés, con una periodicidad trimestral. Estos cambios, han sido valorados muy positivamente por parte de nuestros autores y lectores.

Este año, la Revista ha renovado su Equipo Editorial, contando con un nuevo Consejo de Redacción y Consejo Asesor. Sus nombres y filiaciones pueden ser consultados en la web de la Revista: http://revistademetalurgia.revistas.csic.es/index.php/revistademetalurgia/about/editorialTeam.

Nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a todos y cada uno de ellos por aceptar una posición en estos Consejos y por su disposición a colaborar con Revista de Metalurgia para mejorar sus índices de calidad y contribuir a la difusión de la ciencia y tecnología de los materiales metálicos.

El nuevo Consejo de Redacción está decidido a continuar mejorando la visibilidad e internacionalización de la Revista y estamos poniendo todo nuestro esfuerzo en seguir modernizando la Revista, facilitando a los autores y revisores el envío de manuscritos, su revisión y en general, la gestión editorial. Para ello, con la ayuda de Editorial CSIC y de la FECYT (Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología), implantaremos a lo largo de este año un módulo OJS (Open Journal System) de gestión on-line de manuscritos. Los autores que deseen publicar en nuestra Revista serán debidamente notificados del nuevo sistema de envío de manuscritos. Estamos seguros de que la introducción de este nuevo sistema proporcionará una gestión más ágil de todos los procedimientos editoriales y contribuirá a una mejor imagen nacional e internacional de Revista de Metalurgia, que el año pasado recibió el Certificado que la acredita como Revista Excelente.

A modo de un breve resumen editorial estadístico, en 2014 se recibieron 65 artículos, en 56 de los cuales los autores eran expertos de países Europeos, Latinoamericanos y Asiáticos, entre otros. La tasa de rechazo fue superior al 60%. Los cuatro números publicados en el Vol.50 (2014) incluyeron un total de 33 artículos.

Finalmente, en 2015, Revista de Metalurgia celebra el 50 Aniversario de la publicación de su primer artículo. En estos 50 años, la Revista ha publicado más de 2500 artículos científicos. A lo largo de este año, se llevarán a cabo algunos Actos conmemorativos que incluirán Conferencias, una Exposición y la publicación de artículos por parte de autores invitados. Con ello, pretendemos dar a conocer la larga trayectoria de la Revista y mejorar el conocimiento que la sociedad y la comunidad científica tienen de ella.
