Moreover, all components related with the control systems from the actuators up to the CNC (integration of sensors, preprocessing and filtering of signals, new algorithms for position, speed and trajectory controls) must be redrawn. Moreover, the authors offer the state of the art with some of the most important milestones in the field of control systems applied to a high speed machining process. Some of the most important benefits provided by the new control systems, towards wich the main research efforts in the next years should be conducted, are summarized. Emphasis is made in the lineal actuators and in their features, ideal for the HSM. Moreover, as an approach of this work, some of the most important control schemes based on the Fuzzy Logic, which have been successfully tested for regulating nonlinear and complex processes, are proposed. Current needs and design requirements of the machine tools can be fulfilled applying the suggested schemes such as new servosystems, strategies for thermal compensation, cutting fluids supply controls, metal removal rate optimization. etc. By means of these control schemes the overall machine tool performance can be improved and the productivity can be increased. Moreover, a set of proposals of open fields for future developments is made, starting from the study of the achievements reached by some manufacturers of machine tools and CNC. Finally, the characteristics of the hierarchical controllers are remarked as well as some of the benefits that can be achieved without being necessary large modifications in the machine tool, and considering the generalized introduction of open CNC.}, number={2}, journal={Revista de Metalurgia}, author={Haber, R.
