The interest about all the physical and chemical phenomena related with ductile iron solidification processes have increased due to the casting requirements of free-porosity. In the present work two main ductile iron chemical compositions, currently used in ordinary industry lines, have been selected in order to analyse their solidification patterns under similar conditions by means of quenching tests. In addition, the influence of metal inoculation on eutectic transformation processes is studied. Taking the obtained results into account, different solidification models are established for each transformation type found in this work, attending mainly to the possibility of contraction defect appearances.
