Abstract

The high carbon ferromanganese obtained by means of carbothermic reduction in an electric arc furnace of direct current is proposed. The ideal composition of slag oxides to achieve a flux to be used in the submerged arc welding (SAW) is established. Calculation for charge components (pirolusite, coke, steel wool, lime, rutile and fluorite) for no fluxes technology for FeMn is carried out taking into account the welding fluxes characteristics of the SiO2-MnO-CaO system. Charge materials reduction experiments to obtain FeMn and slag are used to develop a SAW flux.
