The present work studies the manufacturing process of Al reinforced with Carbon Fibres (CF) by "Squeeze Casting", establishing the variables for obtaining an acceptable product with little Al4C3 at the interface. Friction and wear tests are performed and the necessary conditions for the formation of a tribofilm are established. The tests show an increasing resistance to abrasion due to their own wear mechanism. Certain design criteria for those components subjected to friction are recommended in order to maximise the mechanical performance of the tribological system.
