An alternative powder-metallurgy consolidation method of milled aluminium (M Al) powder, consisting in a double cycle of cold pressing and vacuum sintering, has been developed. The aim of the present investigation is to simplify this consolidation method, from the original five steps to only three steps. This would be possible since milled powders soften during desassing, at high temperature. The mechanical properties of compacts (hardness at room and high temperature, ultimate tensile strength and elongation) obtained by the three-step and the five-step processing are comparable. This process could be of special interest for the manufacturing of large series of small parts, such as are used in the automotive industry.
